Pamphlet Stitch Bookmaking
(with Artist, Carol Milliron)
Saturday, January 18 from 10:00am - 1:00pm
Following in the tradition of the Roycroft bookbinders, this class will use the pamphlet stitch structure to create two books, a soft and hard cover. Students will become familiar with the terms and tools used in bookmaking. A variety of papers will be available with a journal or sketchbook as possible outcomes, depending on the type of paper selected for your creation. Step-by-step instructions will be given on how to bind the book with a completed project by the end of class. These books are suitable for your own future art projects or as unique and personal holiday gifts.
Supplies include all materials needed to make the complete book, but if you have a particular paper you wish to use for covers or artwork feel free to bring it to class. The tools provided during the class project will remain the property of the instructor. Students are highly recommended to bring magnification (reading) glasses if needed. Lunch is not supplied so please feel free to bring a bagged lunch, or something to snack on.
Carol Milliron is a teacher and book maker. She collects fine papers for her books in travels domestic and abroad. She is happy to share her knowledge in book making with children and adults alike.
